# RIPEMD

RIPEMD (RACE Integrity Primitives Evaluation Message Digest) is a family of cryptographic hash functions developed in Leuven, Belgium, by Hans Dobbertin, Antoon Bosselaers and Bart Preneel at the COSIC research group at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, and first published in 1996. RIPEMD was based upon the design principles used in MD4, and is similar in performance to the more popular SHA-1. RIPEMD lives in the **Hashing** category of the `fx` menu.

## Parameters

| Parameter | Type | Required | Default | Description |
| --------- | ------ | -------- | ------- | ------------------------------------------------------ |
| Input | string | yes | — | Value to transform. Previous step output or a literal. |
| Size | string | no | `320` | Choose one of: `320`, `256`, `160`, `128`. |

`Input` is the primary value (previous step output or a literal).

## Returned value

| Type | Description |
| -------- | ------------------------------------ |
| `string` | Result of the RIPEMD transformation. |

## Limitations

- This operation treats Input as raw bytes (binary-capable). Non-text payloads may display differently after decoding.

## Example

<details>
<summary>Run RIPEMD</summary>

RIPEMD (RACE Integrity Primitives Evaluation Message Digest) is a family of cryptographic hash functions developed in Leuven, Belgium, by Hans Dobbertin, Antoon Bosselaers and Bart Preneel at the COSIC research group at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, and first published in 1996. Adjust optional parameters when the defaults do not match your payload.

1. Set **Input** to the value to transform (previous step output or a literal).

2. Review **Size** and keep defaults unless your format requires otherwise.

3. Confirm **Output value** shows the transformed result.
