# GOST hash

The GOST hash function, defined in the standards GOST R 34.11-94 and GOST 34.311-95 is a 256-bit cryptographic hash function. It was initially defined in the Russian national standard GOST R 34.11-94 _Information Technology – Cryptographic Information Security – Hash Function_. The equivalent standard used by other member-states of the CIS is GOST 34.311-95. This function must not be confused with a different Streebog hash function, which is defined in the new revision of the standard GOST R 34.11-2012. GOST hash lives in the **Hashing** category of the `fx` menu.

## Parameters

| Parameter | Type | Required | Default | Description |
| --------- | ------ | -------- | ------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Input | string | yes | — | Value to transform. Previous step output or a literal. |
| S-Box | string | no | `D-A` | Choose one of: `D-A`, `D-SC`, `E-TEST`, `E-A`, `E-B`, `E-C`, and 4 more. |

`Input` is the primary value (previous step output or a literal).

## Returned value

| Type | Description |
| -------- | --------------------------------------- |
| `string` | Result of the GOST hash transformation. |

## Limitations

- This operation treats Input as raw bytes (binary-capable). Non-text payloads may display differently after decoding.
- Wrong key, algorithm options, or malformed input typically raises an evaluation error — fix Input or options before re-running.

## Example

<details>
<summary>Run GOST hash</summary>

The GOST hash function, defined in the standards GOST R 34.11-94 and GOST 34.311-95 is a 256-bit cryptographic hash function. Adjust optional parameters when the defaults do not match your payload.

1. Set **Input** to the value to transform (previous step output or a literal).

2. Review **S-Box** and keep defaults unless your format requires otherwise.

3. Confirm **Output value** shows the transformed result.
