# To Quoted Printable

Quoted-Printable, or QP encoding, is an encoding using printable ASCII characters (alphanumeric and the equals sign '=') to transmit 8-bit data over a 7-bit data path or, generally, over a medium which is not 8-bit clean. It is defined as a MIME content transfer encoding for use in e-mail. QP works by using the equals sign '=' as an escape character. It also limits line length to 76, as some software has limits on line length. To Quoted Printable lives in the **Data format** category of the `fx` menu. See [Quoted-Printable](https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/html/rfc2045#section-6.7) for format details.

## Parameter

| Parameter | Type   | Required | Default | Description                                            |
| --------- | ------ | -------- | ------- | ------------------------------------------------------ |
| Input     | string | yes      | —       | Value to transform. Previous step output or a literal. |

`Input` is the primary value (previous step output or a literal).

## Returned value

| Type     | Description                                       |
| -------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| `string` | Result of the To Quoted Printable transformation. |

## Limitations

- This operation treats Input as raw bytes (binary-capable). Non-text payloads may display differently after decoding.

## Example

<details>
<summary>Encode as quoted-printable</summary>

Encode text using quoted-printable (QP), a common email encoding for printable ASCII with special characters as `=XX`.

1. Set **Input** to the text that needs QP encoding.

2. Confirm **Output value** uses `=` escapes for non-safe characters where needed.
