# To Binary

Displays the input data as a binary string. For example, `Hi` becomes `01001000 01101001`. To Binary lives in the **Data format** category of the `fx` menu.

## Parameters

| Parameter   | Type   | Required | Default | Description                                                                          |
| ----------- | ------ | -------- | ------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| Input       | string | yes      | —       | Value to transform. Previous step output or a literal.                               |
| Delimiter   | string | no       | `Space` | Choose one of: `Space`, `Comma`, `Semi-colon`, `Colon`, `Line feed`, `CRLF`, `None`. |
| Byte Length | number | no       | `8`     | Numeric value. Default `8`.                                                          |

`Input` is the primary value (previous step output or a literal).

## Returned value

| Type     | Description                             |
| -------- | --------------------------------------- |
| `string` | Result of the To Binary transformation. |

## Limitations

- This operation treats Input as raw bytes (binary-capable). Non-text payloads may display differently after decoding.
- Invalid or mismatched encoding for the chosen options typically raises an evaluation error — fix the Input or options before re-running.

## Example

<details>
<summary>Show text as binary</summary>

Display the input as a binary bit string.

1. Set **Input** to the text. Paste:

   ```text title="Input"
   Hi
   ```

2. Confirm **Output value** shows binary groups (for example `01001000 01101001`).
